Opioid Prescribing Audits“The opioid epidemic is the deadliest drug crisis in American history and the Department of Justice is doing its part to help end this crisis.” With the development of the Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid (ARPO) Strike Force [1], with hubs in the Nashville and Cincinnati areas, The Department of Justice intends to “effectively and efficiently prosecute medical professionals and others involved in the illegal prescription and distribution of opioids”, concentrating their efforts in areas hardest hit by the opioid crisis [2].

ALN Consulting has a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective related to investigations involving questionable opioid prescribing practices. Having worked alongside ARPO Strike Force partners, ALN’s legal nurse consultants are aptly suited to support healthcare providers facing scrutiny of their prescribing practices by law enforcement, regulatory agencies and state medical boards.

Most health care practices lack the time, resources and expertise to ensure their prescribing practices are fully complaint with state and federal regulations. ALN Consulting partners proactively with our clients to ensure safe opioid prescribing practices are in place and demonstrate controlled substance prescriptions are medically necessary, advisable and justified.

Let the team of nurse experts at ALN Consulting help mitigate your risk of a prescribing practice audit and minimize fallout in the event of a compliance investigation.

[1] ARPO is a joint law enforcement effort that brings together the resources and expertise of the Health Care Fraud Unit in the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section (HCF Unit), the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for ten federal districts in six states, as well as law enforcement partners at the FBI, HHS Office of the Inspector General (HHS-OIG) and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The operation includes the participation of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, multiple State Medicaid Fraud Control Units, and other federal and state agencies. The mission of the ARPO Strike Force is to identify and investigate health care fraud schemes in the Appalachian region and surrounding areas, and to effectively and efficiently prosecute medical professionals and others involved in the illegal prescription and distribution of opioids.
